Crankshaft Sensor just replaced, same problem again. Won't start. K so, about 2 months ago I noticed that starting my '99 Cat was taking more and more cranks of the starter and getting increasingly 'weaker' sounding. By this I mean it will turn over but then sound like its gonna die but then vroom back up to full life.
So one day, it was cold and sitting for a many hours and when I went to start it, it would just crank and crank and not turn over. While theres still battery, it will rumble the car every few cranks but never get going.
So I have it towed and pay $220 for what I want to say is the Crankshaft sensor to be replaced. If it wasn't Saturday I'd call and find out exactly what it was and if it wasn't 0 degrees out, I'd go find where I hid the receipt.
Anyways, all I remember them saying was that some frequency was out of range and thats why it wouldn't start. So they fixed it and things have been great.
Now for the past week, as it's been really colder than usual, I've noticed the increasingly weaker starts again and today I started it up, was alarmed by a loud 'squeeling' noise coming from the engine right in front of the driver's seat, turned it off. Now it won't start at all and is doing the same as last time: 'crank, crank, rumble, crank, crank, crank, rumble'.
Assuming this is the same thing as last time, what could be causing this 'frequency' to keep changing and moving out of the 'range' it needs to start correctly.
You guys are awesome. Please help. I can't afford to keep fixing the same $220 part every other month. Thanks for any advice you can give!
