Re: Catera V new mods

No offense to any CTS lovers here, V or otherwise, but I don't find them attractive. That includes their wheels. To me 5 thin spokes are perfect. Something about them pleases my eye. Maybe it goes back to the Cragars I had on my old Buick Wildcat. The CTS-V wheels are 7 spoke.

I have a Cat Sport and though the wheels have the right number of spokes they're too thick for my taste. I bought new alloyls to mount my snow tires onto and I chose, you guessed it, wheels with 5 thin spokes very similar to the Steinmetz wheels on the Catera-V. I'm going to mount '04 GTO brake calipers up front, painted red, so that they show through nicely.

The Catera-V has much larger discs to go along with its big red calipers. It would be a shame to hide them behind more spokes than necessary. If anything the wheels could maybe be chromed to match the CTS-V grille as well as the BMW fender vents.

Re: Catera V new mods

You guys are correct on the bolt spacings, but my point was they are different and do not interchange. Elvin, good idea on the calipers. Do you know if they are a direct bolt on. I need to find out if the GTO M/cyl will bolt up also.

Re: Catera V new mods

Why do you ask? From looking at your pictures it looked like Lingenfelter supplied the Catera-V with larger brakes. RE: the 2004 GTO front calipers, it's still too cold to sit on my garage floor and install them but I've been assured that they are a straight swap. Both cars use discs of the the same diameter but the lug spacing is different so you must use Catera/Omega B rotors.

Straight swap as far as I could tell. My calipers came from e-Bay and were supposed to be from an '04, and everything matched up well enough. I'm using Brembo drilled rotors in the front for my '98. I'm running 17's so I can't answer to how the caliper body clearance would be on factory rims, though.
I've been warned that only the 2003/2004 calipers will fit. Pontiac introduced different ones starting in 2005. I never got an answer regarding the mastercylinder and booster. I haven't decided whether to go with slotted/dimpled EBC discs (#GD764), or going with plain vented Brembos (#25394) instead. I keep going back and forth on this one. I will be trying ceramic pads for the first time ever but will switch to kevlar if I don't like them.

Re: Catera V new mods

The reason I asked is that the installation on my car required new knuckles to fit the larger rotors. In the rear all the change was in the caliper and the larger rotors fit with no changes. I think but have not confirmed that the GTO has a larger bore M/cyl.

Re: Catera V new mods

Catera V what is your email adress? I have a 98 Catera and 02 Formula with an LS1. I've been thinking about what it would take to to put an ls1 and 4l60e automatic into the catera. I'm in Sterling Heights and would love to check out your ride sometime!
