97 cat with 78k on it..Just recently did valve cover gaskets and the timing belt and tensioner deal, ran ok after that but always had made a small noise like something was amiss (thinking i didnt get the timing perfect because it was slightly off on the idle and could hear a slight pinging on high rpm's).Well we drove the car for last couple months very sparingly.10 days ago parked it and was getting ready to give a once over before putting away for the winter.Went out to start it the other day and it was barely running.Running like it was miss firing ,didnt see any smoke it was idling on it own but just didnt want to move hardly at all under its own power (spitting and sputtering to even move 10 feet).Didnt want to deal with it right then and there so i waited for nicer day, yesterday went out to fire it up and it was just cranking, i finally got it to start but only after cranking it and feathering the gas to keep it running..The check engine light came on and was blinking..Here we go again, i guess i'll get some more motivation (slowly losing motivation for this car) to work on it tomorrow after work, start digging into the motor again.Hopefully it's not a major deal this time.

a blinking check engine light is a misfire. check plug wires or coil

Yep they were the first thing on the to-do list.It just came out of nowhere on me though.Maybe because of the cold or something, i'll try to run some dry gas through it also maybe there was some condensation that froze or what not..But it definately is running like there is something bigger at play here but who knows with this car, it is finicky to say the least...
