running fog lights with high beams

Remove this ad
has anybody tried to wire up there fogs to stay on with the high beams? im looking to do it. i was thinking of just jumping some fuses together, but the fog lights don't have a fuse and the high beams fuse gets 12v even if the high beams arent on. so now im thinking of just running wires directly from the houseing. just splice in the 12v wire of the high beam and add it to the 12v wire on the fog light. the only reason i dont like this is that the fog would come on with the DRL's that way. anybody have any ideas?

Re: running fog lights with high beams

It has to do with the intensity and number of lights shining on the front of your car. There are regulations that prohibit high beams and fog lamps burning at the same time. The state I live in has regulations that prohibit a certain number of lamps burning at the same time.

Look at this link: http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp...19VAC30-70-160

The reason carmakers turn the fog lamps off when the high beams are turned on is because it's regulated by DOT, not because they want to.

Of course if you want to modify your vehicle you CAN but you'll be taking the risk of getting a ticket.

Re: running fog lights with high beams

Todd, I had a swich that I ordered from J.C. Whitney on my 1993 Buick Regal that worked great. I was going to order another one for my !998 Catera. It was part number zx811821p available from www.jcwhitney.com. It was real easy to install and made a world of difference and I never got bothered by the cops because I never had my high beams on when another car was approaching. But, that being said, ewill3rd is correct; it is in fact technically illegal.

Re: running fog lights with high beams

Yo Todd, do all the lights turn on when you hit the high beam switch? Also, do the fog lites turn off when you de-activate the switch?

your low beams are always on. if you flashed someone and had this done, the fogs would remain on
