Re: Exhaust stutter!

Eeeeech that happened to me ....

Your whole car will start shaking when you start it and it will die after a while
Then it works on the second or third try ....
If that's what's happening to you then THEY changed my gas "gas sensor".

*** I say they because it was the GM dealership and well after reading on this post I just don't trust them anymore. I have had that Check engine problem for a while now and I brought my car into the dealership 3 times and they haven't figured out what the problem is...I ain't going back there no more...

Hope this helps...

Re: Exhaust stutter!

first off go to an autozone and get the codes read off they will do it for free. but more the likely your car is having a misfire condition so codes will be 300 (means multiple missfires) then there is 301-306 and the number at the end tells you which cylinder is miss firing first check the normal things like spark plugs then if you got a 97-98 look for oil in the sparkplug wells for oil due to bad valve cover gaskets then it could be the wires also then look at the coil pack could be bad (I just listed stuff mainly for the 97-98 cause the 99-01 has a better coil packs over each bank of cylinders also the 99-01 has no spark plug wires) now if all that looks good the next place to look is going to be the mass air flow sensor. they fail alot i got a 99 and have been thru 3 total mass air flow sensors.

Re: Exhaust stutter!

yeah im from Canada we dont have autozone hehe, but to just make it clear the car only does that when i start it for the 1st time if it been parked the hole day then start it! it only does it sometime and when i stop at a red light or whatever it goes somethin like this (ba-ba-ba-ba) suppost to be the sound!
but also when i went to the dealer they told me i need to replace the resinator, would that do it?

Are you still experiencing problems ?

If so, what was the problem ?

I can post a pic of the actual part and I will also let you know the exact "term" for the part. That's what you get when you deal with a noob like me ...I need pictures

Re: Exhaust stutter!

to test your mass air flow sensor just unplug it with the car off then start it to see if it runs better.

Re: Exhaust stutter!

HI bk Caddy,

I checked my receipt last night and the part I changed was the mass air flow and the mass air flow sensor. The job cost me about 425$ can + for both parts and installation and scan test at my GM dealership.

I wanted to post a pic right away but the site was down. I am at work and I don't have the pic but IT IS the mass air flow and the sensor.

I recommend you get it checked and change it ASAP or else it will get worst ! Believe it does get worst ... your whole car will start shaking like crazy upon startup a very scary sight which you don't want to witness...

Hope this helps
