    PO455 Gas Cap Code

Did a can a saw the P0455 code. Tried to tighten the gas cap (still doesn't seem to be tight enough) and the code was still appearing. Anyways, I erased the code and the check engine light is now off. Anyways, how big of a deal is this...does a lot of fuel actually get released through vapors?

    Thanks

it could be a faulty gas cap, but also check the tube running from the filler neck up towards the front of the car, my gas cap is fine but i have a broken vacuum tube

I had this same for problem for a month. My local mechanic said I should replace the gas cap. I went to Rockmart.com and got the Gates gas cap. And everything is good now. Don't cheap out and get a gas cap from Autozone or whoever, get the Gates, it's only $8. Hope this helps.

HAHA!! No its a Evap system gross leak detected. Doesn't always mean its the gas cap. In fact, rarely is it the cap with my experience. Evap systems can be very complicated, make sure you know what your doing. Some times a leak can be detected and there not even be a leak. Usually that symptom points out the detection pump or Fuel tank pressure sensor. Have the Evap system smoked. And make sure the proper Valves and Solenoids are actuated for proper test results. Some leaks can show up intermittently. So don't take you check engine light out on your mechanic. Take it out with environmentalist, lol or who ever decided on the good ol' Evaperative system.
