| | | Surprised by Year We all are aware troubled Cateras can exist. They are the exception, but they are seen too often, and more often than we would wish.
What surpirised me about this example is the YEAR of the car: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2000-...QQcmdZViewItem
I have to think a competent service professional could bring this car back.
FINDING that person, however, would likely be quite a challenge.

I should have said earlier the other thing which surprised me here is the low miles.
You read the ad and hear the hopelessness in the writing of the seller. The guy obviously has reached the end of his rope and given up. He just wants out at (almost) any price at this point. I mean this is a 2000 for goodness sake. I have seen giveaways on 1997 Cats and even some 1998 Cats. And there were a LOT more cars made during those earlier years.
But you do not see this kind of desperation sale very often for a 2000 Cat. The cars were better in 2000.
My feeling is this guy paid thousands for poorly executed repairs and has just reached the end of his rope.
Re the repairs:
It's not the as-stated Cadillac parts I would question in this car; it is the quality of the repair WORKMANSHIP which would cause me to have concern. |

| | | Re: Surprised by Year Any poorly maintainted car can become a money pit and this car doesn't look well maintained and was probably inproperly fixed.
My 2000 would be the same if I didn't keep up with the repairs, etc. They aren't much better than the early models.

| | | Re: Surprised by Year True, for a 2k its not too bad of a deal, id like to know whats wrong with it though...
I still say cadillac needed to offer a manual tranny for these cars, had they done that when my 98's auto unit died at 106k miles, i would've retrofitted a 5speed (or mabye a 6speed if cadillac was real smart) in there and drove happily, instead i let the car go... |

| | | Re: Surprised by Year Well, the auction ended and the car went for south of two grand!
I'm just shaking my head here. That seems so out of line for a 140 MPH Y2K German sports sedan with less than 60,000 miles on the clock and with a clear, unbranded, title.
I don't care if the car has warts, which this one did not!
That just seems out of line.

| | | Re: Surprised by Year What is the audiobahn package? I think they are limited at 130 mph. Someone on the forum tested it and got up to 134 mph. |

All Cateras, including Sport and Standard, computer limited to 125 because of tires fitted at factory. MV6 capable of 140 MPH in steady state. Cat, too, provided:
* Computer governor defeated.
* Proper, 140 MPH rated, tires fitted.
I believe the Catera is the fastest Cadillac-badged car ever built in 2001 or prior. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
