Front bumper cover???

Remove this ad
I have a bumper cover question. I parked facing the curb and when I pulled out of the parking spot I heard a scraping noise. When I got home I noticed my fog lamps were pushed back into the bumper cover so I looked underneath the front cover and saw that the plastic pieces in which the fog lamps screws into on the front cover on both sides are cracked really bad My fog lamps are hanging on for dear life. Is there any way to fix this besides getting a new front bumper cover? Any place to screw or attach the fog lamps besides the sides of the cover?

Re: Front bumper cover???

I have one fog in a similar dangling position (plastic brace is broken)... I'm going to make a custom bracket (when I get the opportunity).

Re: Front bumper cover???

I have a solution. You can drill tiny holes at the top and bottom of each end where the fog lamps are on the front bumper cover and run some picture frame wire or rebar through the holes and connect it to the outer edges of the fog lamp where the glass of the fog lamp connects to the plastic part. Just tighten it up with some plyers and this will hold them in place. Or you can go on EBAY here http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=160015140238 and get a used one in pretty good shape.

Re: Front bumper cover???

I just haven't decided if my custom backet will be made with fiberglass or aluminium.... one of the skills acquired when I used to have my ski boat...

Re: Front bumper cover???

Thanks for the help. I have looked for replacements for used front covers in my Catera's color at www.car-parts.com and the best price was $135 plus shipping . I wish I knew how to paint or someone who painted because that Catera cover on EBAY looks better than mine and the fog lamp slots are in great shape for 40 bucks which would save me more than $100. Have you ever painted one GBcadi? I'm guessing the spray painting isn't that hard but the clear coat . Resilient's suggestion about building a bracket or GBcadi's about drilling holes sounds better and cost effective . Drilling tiny holes will look tacky though and might affect inspection which is coming up soon for me.

Re: Front bumper cover???

Your welcome. Spray painting is easy for me but here's a link http://www.duplicolor.com/training/a..._training.html with video. You should have no problem if you decide to drill because if you drill tiny holes, Bondo or plastic filler should cover them up and you could touch it up with paint afterwards. That should get you through inspection but I thought if the lights work then it doesn't matter in most states.
