Drive in movies (what not to do)

Remove this ad
Ok, the wife and I went to our first Drive In movie with our Catera a few weeks ago. Thinking, boy this is gonna be great, comfy car and decent sound system. Much to my chagrin, I couldn't find a way to keep the stereo on other than to turn the key on and off every X minutes - how annoying!!

We sat outside the car for awhile as it was a warm evening and somewhere along the line the lock button on the key fob got pushed (happens a lot while they are in my pocket BTW ). Well since the windows were already down, someone got the bright idea to just reach in and unlock the doors!! Pandimonium ensued, as yours truly desperately fumbed for the fob to clear the alarm Needless to say, there were a few unhappy campers near my parking spot, it's really hard for 200# man to crawl under these cars without a jack.

Well, we suffered through the two movies and when it was time to leave, I came up with nearly dead battery. Thankfully, the theatre owner is prepared for such events and we were on our way home after a 10 minute wait.

So can any of you help the rookie out here? Is there a way to turn the radio on - and leave it on thru a whole movie without starting/running the engine? Secondly, how can I desensitize the fob buttons, so it doesn't open the trunk, lock the doors, etc, every time I bend over or sit down with in signal shot of the car??

Re: Drive in movies (what not to do)

When I had my '97 I had to leave the key in the forward position because unfortunately Caddy never figured that someone would want to listen to the radio while sitting. Also the battery dies very quickly. I would have to start the car every few minutes. I thuink the charging systems are weak.

Can't you turn the key backwards, for the accessory feature?

Never mind the Catera sound system. By two $10 fm radios with headphones.
By a brick of heavy duty batteries. Enjoy the shows. Leave with a charged car battery.

Re: Drive in movies (what not to do)

I rewired my radio with a new constant positive (for memory back up)and a new accessory positive so I can listen to the radio when ever the key is in the ignition and in the first position (just like any normal car should be.

I also sued the stock radio and all the rest of the audio(if you can call it "audio") as a boat anchor, but that's a whole different story.

Re: Drive in movies (what not to do)

Boris, how do you rewire a Bose stereo to work in the first ignition position? I killed the battery today while cleaning the car and trying to listen to the stereo!
