i jus got a 99' catera black on black great looking car but..... i have a problem with the transmission light its on most of the time and my car seems to take off in 3rd gear the light rarely goes away and when it does my car works just fine (nice and smooth) i've noticed that the transmission light goes away when its kinda cold out like chicagos winter does any one have the same problem or know what to do in this case? is it bad wiring? TCU?? help!!!! i'm loosing hair because of this problem and id like to hear from you guys before i take it the the "cadillac dealer mafia" (rip off ppl) lol
have 98 catera black with grey leather have 153000 kms love this car will start to do some mods and post some pics
1st mod schedule is change 4 rotors cross drill / slotted and pads, cant wait
oh yeah i had the resonator remove and it sounds good now (infinity g35)
I had a similar transmision problem. The transmission light would go on, lock in 4th gear. The only way to get it out was to turn the car on and off. After a couple of years of that happening on occasion it got much worse, I would loose 3rd gear, and it would not go into 4th. So I had the transmission rebuilt. It worked fine for about one month, now it is rumbling at low and higher speeds, back to the shop...
that really sucks about your tranny.. i hope that my problem its just electrical, like i said b4 my transmission works jus fine after the trans light is off. in a diff post someone told me to spray the connections with ( krown) a antirust spray but the thing is i dunno where are the connections from the tranny i looked under the car but it was kinda hard to see maybe i need more time to look at it good, if someone knows where are the connections plase let me know i dont wanna be under the car for too long ( chicago winter) :P
I see that some of these postings are somewhate aged! ( whose kidding now?) But I have a 2000 Catera, approx 60k miles and love it, but my motor head son-in-law is frustrated trying to put new brake pads on it. ( I have resources that may keep me away from the dealer some of the time). Now I know he wants to make points over the other son-in-law, so can anyone help with procedures, or is the shop manual the way to go?
I own a 99, but right now it is collecting dust in my driveway with an ECU problem (I think). It has been eating a new battery a year and you cannot travel with it more than 50 miles when the transmission warning light comes on. Then you have to shut it off and restart for the computer to reset. Unfortunately, the car is dead now. Will not start and the battery is fully charged. Looking at picking up another ECU for it to swap out and see if that solves my problems.
I'm very interested in purchasing a catera. A local dealer has 1 for sale. Found out about it on auto trader, going to take it for a test driver monday (3/13/06). Are there any "red flags" I should look for in particular?
