Re: Who owns a Catera?

Gee! Me too! Got a '98 Cat last August. 8 large. 210,000 km. Blewup the original engine at 230,000 km. Put in a salvaged engine this spring with only 73,000 km. It lasted 5,000 km. Got a 2000 year vintage salvaged engine replaced free of charge. ( dealer had a 1 year warranty on engine) No problems since. Just about due for an oil change.
BUT, I love the car! They're a lot like women. You know when you've met the right one. Even though they have faults. My Cat will always have a home here. No matter what I drive daily.
Great site for info.
Brothers in Cats.

Re: Who owns a Catera?

I had a 1997 and it must have been a monday morning build or just a lemon as I did have problems with it. The cost to rebuild the brake system was more than the car was worth. It drove well while everything was working.

Re: Who owns a Catera?

I have a 97 Catera we bought new. It just turned 49,000 miles, although the dealer did handle some warranty the only maintenance expense other than oil changes has been one battery, 3 months ago a set of tires, and this week front brake pads.

Just joined the forum to research the timing belt...wondering if we should pre-emptively replace it. Anyone know of a place that rents the special tools? $300 for one tool hardly makes it worth doing ourselves.

Re: Who owns a Catera?

I have a 98 Catera and am having a problem can anyone help. The car will start and run for a little while and then will just cut off. Will crank again but I have to wait for about an hour or so.
Also replaced the fog light and now for some reason it leaks. Is there a way to fix the problem. Can't figure out why it leaks or where the water is coming from. Any suggestions on either problem will be greatly appreciated.
