| Re: need help on 97 catera battery idle low Well, you will have to check first if the alternator is giving out enough voltage, don't just measure from the battery cables, if you can, measure direct from the alternator itself. If you get a big discrepancy in the reading, then your battery cable probably needs replacement. Unless you establish the condition of your alternator, then you can't move forward to the next step. It happened to me in the past, I even had to replace the battery with a new one, but it turned out that i had to replace the battery cable, specifically the positive cable. The car just emits too much heat that if you use a small gauge cable, it gets cooked so fast. So in case you go for a battery cable replacement, go for the thickest you can find. |
