ok I live in minnesota now with no garage and am looking for the origanal block heater that comes with the catera and a few people said it is already on the car right above the oil filter housing but you will have to buy the cord. I don't remember if I ever saw the block heater already installed and well I just changed my oil about 1000 miles ago and don't want to do it again till it is time so if any one knows about this it would be very helpfull and if it already on there where can i get a cheap cord for it.
This cold weather and short trips with the car never really warming up (not even warm air from the heater) is killing my gas millage 14 mpg used to get 19 mpg under the same driving routes. I have a garage but it is not heated and only stays about 20 degrees warmer than the outside temp but i would wish one morning i could wake up go to the car not have it idle at 1500 rpms and the oil pressure gauge at 75 and have some warm air comethrough the vents. I dont know if a "block heater" would do alot because the motor oil would still be cold, the trans, the rear end and everyother system with fluid. But if all you need is a plug and there is already a heater in one of the plugs in the water jacket its worth a shot.
Are you sure you don't have the cord and plug already? My Cat '98, right under the cover next to the airbox, there it was nicely attached and hidden away... I find odd that you would already have the block heater but not the connection.
Well not for sure if the block heater is there with no cord some people said they were installed and all you need to do is buy the cord but I will have to wait till I change the oil so I can remove the the filter housing and take a look for the block heater
