    Hi,

as you most likely know the Cadillac Catera is an Opel Omega. Thank goodness it's not a "REAL" P.O.S. Cadillac.

The Omega is the "bread and butter" car for lots of Europeans and it does the job just right. Like any self respecting GM car it has it's quirks, but overall it is a pretty decent car especially after the changes for MY 2000.

So many of the Cateras are in the hands of owners with very little money to maintain them properly. As with most of the European cars, that's NOT the way to do it. In that case you are better off driving a Japanese car.

Some young hot shots also think the Catera is a racing machine, which needs to be lowered and outfitted with 22inch rims. Not the right use either for this car.

I maintain my Catera like my wife's Audi A4 and like my other European cars and it is a very reliable and enjoyable car without idiotic monster tires, performance chips or furt-can mufflers.

Talking about a REAL Cadillac, may I mention the Northstar engine?
That's just a little reminder about problems in "REAL" Catteracs.

    Best regards

I with you Opel. I got my '00 Cat back in August. It has been a very enjoyable car. The only problems I have had, its that I had to replace a couple of emissions sensors. The car runs great, is comfortable, and looks damn sexy. Like any car American, Japanese, or Euporean car, regular maintenance is the key. For what I paid for my Cat, there is no way in Hell, I could have gotten an American or Japanese car with all the features I got. Believe me, I did a lot of looking and research before I bought my Cat. I'm damn happy I have my Cat.

So, just out of curiousity (I'm a Fleetwood person, but always open to ANY Caddy ), is the general consensus to avoid '97 and '98 models like the plague, be very cautious with '99s, and then be semi-comfortable with the '00-01 models?

Thought I'd ask, since Catera's are again starting to look attractive to me....

Wow the guy has one post, so he came on here and the first thing he does is talk crap about our cars. Figures though, most of the cadillac dealers are morons anyways.

Thumbs up Re: before you buy any catera

Caddycruiser, like with any car, you have to do the research. I spent almost three months looking into the pros and the cons. I have a very good friend, who is a new car sales manager of a Cadillac dealership, and he tried to steer me away from it. He said I should try to buy a Honda or even a Buick. I told him what my budget was ($12K) and he said, in that case good luck finding a descent car. Well I found my '00 Cat on eBay, got it for a grand under retail and have been enjoying now for four months. Hope this helps. All cars have there problems as you know, but for the looks and the creature features, you can't go wrong.
