    Re: 3800 Supercharged Swap: Catera

I'm going to test-fit the engine in the car and see what modifications to make and fabricate some engine mounts. There are bolt holes on the side of the engine to do this. I will upload some pics when I make them. But today I pulled the engine out of the car so all I have to do now is the modifications. I won't be able to get on until Wed or Thu because our internet stopped working. But I will have to get an elbow to bring the air from the air filter to supercharger, as seen here: (this is a random pic from the internet for an example)

I looked up 3800 sc rwd on google imgs. But that is only an example.

I have come across a new problem, the wire harness that goes inside the vehicle and under the dash is completely different.

This is the end that connects to the fuse box.

This is what it looks like attached to the fuse box on the 3800

And this is the fuse box on the Catera

I am at a loss of what to do. splicing the wires would be too complicated. I know this swap has been done before, both into the Catera, the Holden version of the Catera, and the Omega. But this mangled wire mess is the only thing holding me back. I am currently lost.

    Re: 3800 Supercharged Swap: Catera

I figured out that this wire goes to the OBD port and the speedometer/tachometer. I want to be able to use the wiring harness that's in the Catera (not on the engine but the one that is under the dash) yet make the Catera OBD port and speedometer/tachometer work with the engine. It seems a bit more simple to me now. Hopefully I can figure it out. But I would like some replies for advise or if anyone knows an easier way, please tell me. Would the wire harness from a holden commadore vt hook up easily to the catera or would there have to be splicing involved too?

    Re: 3800 Supercharged Swap: Catera

Don't have a definitive answer for you, sorry. The other Catera Owner who attempted this swap sourced a Holden Commodore ECM and harness from Australia for his project. Hw quit the project so we have no way of knowing if his was the right way to go. I found a commodore 3800SC ECM and Harness on ebay and posted it in another thread. You might want to reconsider it if your dice & splice doesn't work.

I found a Commodore VT 3800 wiring diagram. I don't know if this will help but here it is:

Here's one for a 3800SC used to swap into a Fiero. Maybe useful? Maybe not?

Here's a PDF for the Catera:
