    Propeller shaft/Drive shaft universal joint?

    Hi im new to these forums and i apologize if this has already been brought up.

    i just noticed today that the universal joint on my 2000 catera has some play in it. ive been looking for a little bit and i cant seem to find just the joint.maybe its called something different? i was wondering if anyone knows where i could get one

    It's not a usual American style universal joint. More a rubber/fiber reinforced flex coupler but not sure about the actual name or part #. You can learn more here:

    that looks like the piece where the drive shaft connects to the carrier assembly. im talking about where the two drive shaft pieces meet. see fig 12 on the document (page 14). that's the joint i saw/felt some play in when i moved the drive shaft by hand

    I've never manhandled he driveshaft before so I can't say how much play is too much. Sorry.

    Any play in either u joints or carrier bearing can result in vibrations and wear and tear on other things.
    Both are relatively easy to replace.

    my carrier assembly howls pretty bad. i bought a used one of ebay for 150 bucks that im going to put in. i think ill try to go through cadillac for the u joint

    Why unless you want to pay extra... You can get good ujoints anywhere and chances are it'll outlast the car.

    Catera is Cadillac's bastard stepchild. It's parts are unique and even Cadillac is not stocking many of them. I doubt the more common u - joints will fit. This trouble is a new one to me.

    yeah i went there and the guy said my only option would be to get the entire drive shaft which would be $1000+. he told me to try to go through Fleet pride i haven't try ed yet though
