    Broken rear spring

Instant lowering job. The spring broke about a week ago and dropped the left rear about 2 inches. Oddly enough other than looking weird and the LOWERING light flashing at me constantly, the car's handling didn't seem to be affected. Replaced the rear springs with GTO springs and my Catera's butt is back on an even keel.

Ride is a little firmer but not jarring though my Koni Sport shocks are set at their firmest setting. I haven't taken her through any real twisties yet but she feels more planted on the off-ramps. Though the GTO springs lower the Catera by about an inch she doesn't look any lower to my uncalibrated eye.

The front Koni Sport struts will have to wait for their GTO springs. It's a more involved job and I don't have the time right now.

Did they break low and close to the tray that they sit in?

I didn't count the coils but it was low. The upper 2/3rds collapsed into the lower 1/3rd. Is that the usual place they snap?
