Question 25-35mph vibration when cold?

Has anyone got one of those 97/98 cateras that has or had this vibration (feels like an unbalanced drive shaft) when the car is cold. It gradually disappears as the car gets warmer?

Cadillac tried everything with mine - different wheels, different drive shaft, balancing, alignments and so on, they even put in a new automatic gearbox. Trouble is the vibration is still there!!

Anyone with this problem get a satisfactory solution from Cadillac?

(I just found out the transmission they put in was an AZUZU (I think he said) one - not the original Cadillac one. The large oilpan seal is different on this tranny just in case anyone has the same problem and needs a tranny fluid change).

Re: 25-35mph vibration when cold?

I have something similar. Apparently shifting in transmission is retarded till the car is warmer.

I also heard good things about Mobil 0W40 or Mobil European blend (see the thread below and entry by "rbanda"),

http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...ad.php?t=48569 (Afternoon drive. ?.>>> .vaaroom)

It probably should help but my next oil change is still a while away and I may not be able to provide immediate feedback. There are people on both sides of the OIL issue but it is definitely prevailing in European Opel sites and threads and the Catera basically had the Opel engine.

Good luck.

I have the same vibration while cold. I think the vibration is from the transmission. The symptom disappears after the fluid gets hot. I'm going to try a fluid change with a synthetic base/additive and see what happens. I'll leave a thread when i do it.

Add me to the list.

2000 Catera Sport, 60,000 mi. purchased last summer and ran flawlessly. Experienced the same vibration as you mentioned the very first cold morning in October and every cold morning since, but is now gone with summer temps. ...But here comes winter!

I had just read something in popular mechanics that possibly the tires are getting flat spots on them? These cars are quite heavy, and it would make sense that the tires get warmed up and reform to their normal shape.

This just started happening to me now that it is getting cold. I would just turn the car off and turn it back on and the vibration would be gone. I live in upstate NY so it gets chilly. The other morning, however, I did my normal routine but it wouldn't turn back on it now sits in my gf's driveway and nobody can figure it out.

that may be the case, although it's more an issue with nylon-belted tires than steel-belted.

my dad's truck used to thump down the road big time on cold mornings 'til the tires softened up.

Re: 25-35mph vibration when cold?

I have noticed a vibration on different road surfaces between 35-45 mph...A lot of it may have to do with the road surfaces in your area...I get it in some places I go and not at all in others...but this is all the time not just seasonal
