I just purchased a used 2000 Cadillac Catera with 47K miles. The AC works perfect at 60 degrees, but only at 60. When the dial is turned up to 65-80 degrees, the HEAT comes on and it is HOT.
Any ideas??? Fuse? Relay? Bad Unit?
At least I know the AC works...doesn't seem to have anything wrong with the compressor, fan, etc...
HELP!!!
Also, the fog lights will not come on. The button works and the light on the dash comes on, but the fog lights themselves will not come on. Any suggestions???
First, for the AC, make sure you don't have it turned to AUTO. That could effect it in a slight way. Next, a question, does it ALWAYS blow hot when turned off of 60? Or only when the car is cold, or only when the car is warm?
As far as the foglights, that's VERY odd. On my 98, when BOTH fog lights are NOT working, the fog light notification on the dash board does NOT light up, therefore, letting me know that they are not working. Sounds like an eletrical problem with the switch maybe?? Not sure.
It is the same in AUTO and in MANUAL. ALWAYS blows HOT air when turned up from 60. I haven't checked if it does only when the car is warm or is cold...but I don't really think that is going to matter.
I forgot to mention...the OUTSIDE TEMP reading says, F degrees (farenheit). I know that means something with the problem.
Wow, that's weird. I've never had my temp gauge show F!!! Very odd.
My foglights always go on and off. I blame it on the connection that the bulbs actually plug into. For some reason, they don't see to actually make the connection well enough. All I have to do is take the rubber off and tap the connection and it starts working again! The right one NEVER works at first, the left one ALWAYS comes on, but once I tap the right one, it works and then sometimes they both go off again!! Very irritating!!!!! I haven't had a chance to actually take them out and look more into it but will post my findings if I find a way to correct this problem.
OKAY EVERYONE...Maybe I should have done a little more research before posting.
The reason why the fog lights won't come on...is because...there are NO BULBS! I just checked last night. I got down on my knees to see if I could tell if the bulbs had blown...and I couldn't find any bulbs. Very humbling to come back on here and admit this, but just wanted everyone that was trying to help. Thanks for your help!
It looked like there were places for 2 bulbs on each lamp (both RH and LH). Is this true?
OKAY...now...back to the AC issue...my neighbor has an older model Mercedes and he said the same thing happened to his car. He said that he replaced to AC panel inside the car and it worked fine. Anybody else agree with this? That was one of the things that I considered. I checked all of the fuses yesterday and they were ALL fine. I don't have a repair manual, so I don't know where the relays would be.
Someone also mentioned checking the Climate Control Modules to see if they needed replacing...any idea where those are located???

Hi,
one bulb is for the cornering light, which comes on when you turn on your blinkers, the other one is the fog light bulb.
In what part of the country do you live, where you need your foglights in
summer?
Well, then again, here in So.Cal. where there is hardly ever fog, you see
a lot of "blind drivers" with the fog lights on.
I live in Nashville, TN. There isn't a lot of fog, but there is some because of the heat in summer and rain which cools things down. The truth is...I have always loved fog lights on at all times...just to see the road better at night.
I just found out about the cornering light on another forum. What type of bulb is the "cornering light"?
Good Morning , I also have the same airconditioning problem , inside temp reads F once I saw it go on and it read 40 ( which was wrong) but it went right back off , I should tell you that the battery was dead and was recharged , I dont know if it has to be reset or not , I did check the fuses , it is not the compressor as a new one was put in last yr . have you had any luck with yours? Thanks , kepi

Anyone know where to start?
thats your rob right there.. your outside temp sensor is not properly reading the outside abient temperature so the computer has no idea what the temp so in result its blowing hot air when it gets moved up from 60. to find this is a small sensor located on the left side of the front bumber in the lower grill
