    Starter Problem When Cold

I have a 99 Catera and for the last 2 weeks or so I have had a hard time starting my car.

In the morning the starter clicks, like the solenoid is engaging but nothing else. I try about 15 or 20 times and it will finally engage and start the car.
I can start the car 30 times during the day and no problems.

Is it possible for the starter to get wet inside and freeze?

Is there a rebuild kit I can get for the starter? How about new bearings/bushings? I know in some starters when the bearings/bushings wear out,
the armature can touch the stator and short out the starter.

I can see the bottom bolt from under the car, but how hard is it to access the upper bolt? Can I take apart the starter and do anything to help?

    Thanks,
    Ian

Check battery/starter for corrosion. When it just clicks, do the headlight work to full brightness?

Next time it clicks, tap the starter with a hammer a couple of times.

Well, I'd guess the starting is going. But on these cars, who the hell knows for sure!

    Re: Starter Problem When Cold

Last week we had one day that was above freezing and ever since that day, I haven't had any problems starting the car. The last couple of days it has been -28 (-18.4 Fahrenheit), with the windchill, it's been around -40. No problems starting that car at all.
