I posted about this issue with my Catera a couple years ago, and it still seems to be an issue. My Catera has been having heavy misfiring issues. There are also other codes popping when this happens, usually mass air flow sensor, and I think maybe an oxygen sensor, I forget exactly. Anyways, a couple years ago I had the coil pack replaced and that seemed to fix the issue for a little while, but it's back again. It still could be the coil back again, but I seem to have an underlying problem. What's really strange is, it will drive extremely rough when this happens, but if I turn the car off and back on again it will run as smooth as can be sometimes, especially after I've got it good and warmed up. Does anyone have any thoughts?

When I had those issues I replaced ignition wires, spark plugs, and coil pack and my misfire went away in cylinder 4. When was last time the plugs n wires were replaced?

Re: Catera Misfiring
Park it somewhere where it is dark and open the hood while it is running and see if you can see any blue sparking. I had an Escort that did the same thing and opened the hood in the car as the garage door opener light went off. When dark, it looked like a science fiction battle scene in the engine. Mice chewed on the wires.
