The codes were P0101, P0175, and P0172. While at a stop light, after a while of driving the car, the car seems to be like going into a stall where the rpm is going up and down, but wouldn't stall, and there are times when it wouldn't shift into the next gear even after the car is warmed already, it would get to about 3000rpm before it would shift. Is this another case of Cranshaft position sensor problem? I was told by the guy at Autozone that it's the oxygen sensor in bank 1 and 2. I didn't bother to go back inside the store to get a print out of the details of the codes because they are just too busy. So after the codes were scanned, i just took off. But i remember reading on the scanner saying like "too rich mixture". Anyway, i hope someone can give me some advice on how to solve the problem. I still have a month and a half before i bring the car for emission test, so I hope i can get it fixed by then. thanks guys. |

Sounds like your MAF has gone south or is dirty/blocked. |

You'll see a cable connected to it. Start inspecting that cable first as it could be loose or dirty, then pull the sensor out and inspect inside of it to see if it's contaminated. Checking air filter and it's passages for blockage is a good idea too. |

I pulled out the sensor anyway and dipped it in alcohol and wiggle a little to clean whatever contaminant is there on the surface, which if there is should be invisible. I didn't have the time to check the air filter box and the filter since its already dark outside in the streets where i park the car. I'll check it tomorrow. Anyway, how many cycles would the car need before it cancels the Check Engine light in case the things i did solves the problem? Or should i clear the DTC manually by disconnecting the battery? One more thing, could a bad MAF cause that symptom of the car not shifting until it reaches 3000rpm once in a while? Obviously, I don't understand how the MAF functions in relation with the idling of the car. If only i got a wad of cash, I would replace all sensors of this car so that i wouldn't have to worry about it for quite sometime. But unfortunately, I can just attend to them one at a time as they fault and present itself. I will observe the car tomorrow driving it around the area and post whatever happens. |
