Im just curious if anyone has had a similar problem. I patched the side tank on the radiator filled it up and let it run and then once it warmed up it started smoking. The previous day I checked the oil and it was clean and no signs of coolant.

I had same thing and all this gave me crazy miss fire too. Coolant was it intake, throttle body and got in oil. My mechanic find that my already previously replaced heater control valve broked inside and tight air hose that was connected to the vavle body on the top was sucking coolant. On running engine pull that hose and see if colant will leak from valve . If it is, replace valve and change oil twice!!!. Second time after 20 mile ride.

You mean the really small vacume line out of the top of the heater by pass valve? Did yours dump the coolant oily mixture really bad out of the trottle body?

I just pressurized the cooling system and I can hear air coming from the oil fill tube. Id asume that means its time to put head gaskets in? Are these heads known for warping/ cracking? I dont know if the previous owner ran it hot or not but I had the temp guage a little below 3/4 before I knew I had a problem.

Just had this happen to me after a rebuild. Bought a brand new Heater Control Valve and it came bad in box. Took me multiple times of refilling and running to realize the culprit. I had just replaced my head gaskets too so it wasn't that. Also bypassed the cooler with an exterior aftermarket one... It's the vacuum line attached to the HCV if you've got anything in the throttle tubes. Plugged the vac line and swapped in a "T" connector just to see if the results would be different. Sure enough.
