    Difference between 88923691 and 96017511

    Are they the same part???

Went in to parts store with 96017511 and parts guy came with ACDelco E2297 (did not have the part there)
    Looked online E2297 is 88923691
    https://www.acdelcodirect.com/produc...switches/e2297

    and 96017511 is

    https://www.acdelcodirect.com/produc...tches/96017511

Pulled the switch last year and cleaned it, but going to replace it this year just do not want to remove it and then have the wrong switch.

Happened to me with the CPS. BWD brand cross checked it at home to make sure it was the correct part, it did not fit!! The mounting hole for the torx bolt is about 1/8" off then the thread on the engine block.

Well, I take that back Rockauto.com shows both part numbers and maybe they are interchangeable. They are also priced differently.

This was under Electrical - switch & relay

    ACDELCO Part # E2297 {#88923691}
    SWITCH,PARK/NEU POSN 4 DOORS

This was under Transmission - Automatic

    ACDELCO Part # 96017511
SWITCH,A/TRNS MAN SHFT SHF POSN w/4-SPD AUTO TRANS(ML4)

That is were I cross referenced the 96017511, but after parts give me the 88923691 and searched that on rockauto and found it too. 96017511 listed under the tran section as 'Shaft Position Switch' were I found it first and 88923691 is listed under the electrical switches and relays as 'Neutral Safety Switch / Range Sensor'

the transmission clunking into 2nd and then 3rd when you accelerate and then remove your foot from the pedal before it shifts or just very slowly accelerating. Noticed somethings (twice in one month) the revs go up a little higher then normal before the 2-3 shift happens and where it does it engages harder then normal. Sport mode is the something and the lights on the shifter sometimes 2 light up as I go through the gears. Once the gear is selected, 1 light is on.

    Thanks
    Rob

Me too (dealer online with explosion diagrams), always comes up as 96017511 but it gives me the other. I would buy it from the local dealer, but there MSRP is $400!!

That has nothing to do with the neutral safety switch.

    Have you pulled your codes?

No codes that is the problem. Could be 2-3 shift solenoid, neutral switch, (but they throw codes) or thrush washer. I thought it would be the 2-3 shift solenoid, but that was a bigger job as do not have a lift and I did not like working under jack stands. Fluid level is correct as I had the filter and fluids changed 2 years ago (should have had the solenoid replaced then but the fluid was very clean and normal wear on the magnet).

I removed the switch, opened it up, degreased it and cleaned the traces and pins, greased it up again and reinstalled it. Car shifted fine for a little while and then back again that is why I am pointing to the switch and the lights lighting up when going through the gears.

If the light is illuminating, a code is being set. No history codes either?

If he has it in stock, try to negotiate the price down. If you don't buy it, who will?

Replaced the switch and it much, much better and the 2-3 clunk only happens occasionally. As I thought, it is an internal tranny thing. I replaced the switch because it needed to be replaced since I know what it looked liked inside.
