    Which is which...?

    Hi All,

Ok I've searched and can't find an answer.

If the ECM is in the relay/fuse box next to the battery what is the computer under the dash on the drivers side of the Catera?

I'm having issues with the speedometer and the tachometer not working along with no cruise control. Sometimes if I reset the codes, even when there are none, it all comes back to life for a while.

I occasionally get a random cylinder miss code but that’s it.

So which computer do I look at to replace or get rebuilt?

    Tks for any assistance.

    DJ

U2108 right? Pop the hood. Under the battery and to the rear. See the unit with all the brakelines? That's the ABS pump. The black part of that with the large Amphenol connector is the Electronic Brake and Traction Control Module (EBTCM). It's fried or it's Fuse # 19. Search the forum archives with ebtcm as the keyword. Here's one article:

It's rebuildable including shipping for less than $300 with a 5 year warrantee. Caddy dealer wanted about $1700 just for the part!

His initial question was about something under the dash.

Yes but that's not what he needs to look at. Speedo and cruise control are dependent o the EBTCM for speed info. Tach should work though. Pull the codes and if you see U2108 it's the EBTCM. If resetting the ECM fixes things temporarily it can't be a fuse. No brake line wrenches needed since they don't have to be disconnected. The brakes will continue to work without the EBTCM but not the ABS.

Agreed, but I figured it'd be worth answering just for curiosities sake, but I don't know the answer.
