The difference between the two is the viscosity when cold. 5W 30 acts as 5 weight, and 10W 30 acts as 10 weight. Both are 30 weight at normal engine operating temp.

Unless you're in a particularly cold climate, either will work just fine. Some Googling might get you the answer from the manual.

Moist Cabbage, Let's get together. We can put on some neat coveralls with all sorts of beer, tire and oil patches sewn on, use Charlie's transmission shop up the road for atmosphere, get a pile of different oil filters and make a YouTube of "The World's Best Oil Filter". We'd be rich. (I promise not to talk about Pennzoil synthetic, you promise not to talk about Shell Rotella, and Charlie won't say a word about Texaco Havoline MaxBlend) I'll supply the official Edelbrock, AMSOIL, and Coors ballcaps.

Folks, oil wars are always fun - if you want some REAL antagonism, opinion, flaming, lies, truth, hearsay and witchcraft - - - get into the hundred or so links in www.bobistheoilguy.com

When all else fails, read the owner's manual.

And to think some people wouldn't consider that a good day

    From my earlier post:
"Oh, one more thing, if your Cat has more than100K miles, I would go with 10w30, but that's just my opinion."

Trust me, you'll be glad you did.

    Based on what?

The owners manual will state ambient temp ranges for when to use 5W-30 VS 10W-30. Mileage is NOT a factor.
