1st time poster. Autocredit box removal

Just registered with my iphone. I'll post complete info tonight.

I got this 2000 catera from a buddy. Said it didn't start, and he had a mechanic look at it. Buddy said it was the engine.

Originally wanting to part it out, I towed it towed it to my house and immediately noticed this! A auto credit box. I fiddled with it... And voila! It started! I turned it off because it was smoking around the engine... On both sides, like oil had dripped on the exhaust. Not bellowing, but enough to cause concern. I put ramps under it, went to start it again, now it won't turn over. How do I remove this auto credit box?

I did call the 800 number listed. They said they had no interest in the car.... And my buddy said he had title to it.

Don't know about that box but the smoke is caused by oil sneaking past the cam cover gaskets. Crankcase pressure builds when the Crankcase Breather Box is clogged with sludge. The pressure flexes the camcovers and the oil sprays out. It lands on the exhaust header heat shields and smolders. See tutorial at OOF:

Thanks elvin! I'll study that and repost on the progress.

An auto credit box..... Some buy here pay here lots install them... With GPS tracking. Remote kill for late payers.

I don't know the technical name for them.

I will be heading to the junkyard on Friday to see the exact setup. Where all wires go.

It's not a GPS device or a remote kill, it's just a starter interrupt. Remove it, and it's wiring, and return the factory harnesses to their original state.

Thanks moistcabbage. When I called the 800 number, they said it was a GPS device. Thanks for the clarification.
