    Transmission problem fixed

Rev's too high before shifting, and the engine just revs without engaging 1st gear after stopping. Problem was low transmission fluid. VERY low.

I changed the transmission fluid. The fluid in the main pan was only half full and it was brownish and had a bad burnt smell, yuck. Very messy job. I got the filter kit from Autozone, it included the filter gasket and pan gaskets. Unfortunately only the main pan gasket fit. I had to go back and get RTV gasket maker for the intermediate pan, I hope it holds. Pep boys had the same wrong gasket. The transmission works great now, I can't even tell when it is shifting.

    Re: Transmission problem fixed

i have almost the same thing for about 2 year now. On cold start wouldn't switch from 1st to 2nd gear, only after it heat up, or if i accelerate to 4000 rmp. Also i have hard downshifting some time. Transmission fluid was replaced about 2 years ago (never fix problem with shifting from 1st to 2nd) but shop only drain oil, NOT flushed. i was reading here on forum one guy drain fluid like 3 times and that problem solved !!!!
also there is a bolt inside pan for band adjustment. Anybody know about that !!!!!!!???????

Yes that was me, remember when you take off the pan and replace the fluid, your only replacing about 3 quarts, when the tran holds about 7 quarts , so what i did was 3 gaskets at autozone, ( around $3 each) and 1 filter, and and drop the pan every Saturday for 3 times, the 3th time i drop the pan it was almost as red as the new stuff, now no trans shifting problems at all,

Going to replace oil and filter.
can anybody tell me what oil i have to use, i called dealer and they told me, dextron 3 was originality in that transmission, but it's hard to find dextron 3 and dealer recommended me to use synthetic dextron 6 as a replacement of old dextron 3. Dealer have 1 gallon for $35 but i need more then that, maybe Castrol can be replacement, but witch one?????? Walmart have different kind of Castrol transmission oils.

DEXRON VI is the replacement for DEXRON III. It is superior, and fully compatible with your transmission, and the fluid in it.

DEXRON is the TYPE of fluid, NOT the BRAND. Castrol is a BRAND.

Use whatever brand you'd like, but use DEXRON VI.

what I did was replace with reg. tran fluid the first 2 times than the last time I use synthetic fluid, how many times you change it, use synthetic on the last one. remember that if you change it only once, your replace only half the fluid, the other half is in the reserve pan and tran.
