    Catalytic converter question

I have 98 Catera that's in need of new cats. Are the Catalytic converters used on a 2001 Catera able to be used in mine? I have opportunity to grab a set off a 2001.

    Re: Catalytic converter question

Take a look ar your cats. see if the O2 sensors are located in same spots. I belive my 01 has mid bed o2 sensors. We ordered cats that were supposed to fit to find out that they did not.. i belive the older models may not have the O2 sensor in the convertors. I replaced mine with BRAND NEW aftermarkets for $240 including instalation.

    Re: Catalytic converter question

Hgqguy...would be great to know where you bought the converters from and a part number if possible. I am looking to buy an aftermarket set of converters also and I wanna make sure I get some that are gonna fit properly. I have an 01 Catera also. Did you notice a huge difference in performance and/or fuel economy before and after the converter replacement? I am getting around 10-12 mpg at this time. I did a temperature test with an infrared temperature gun and both of mine have failed. Please help!!!

What do u mean by saying that test is fail. What reading u got after temp test. After my temp. test I got on driver side 256F before and 265F after cat. On pass. side got 270F before cat. and 302F after.

    Re: Catalytic converter question

Read tons of post regarding temp before and after cats. If temp before cat is greater than temp after cat...then your cat could be clogged. Based on the temps you are giving I would say your cats are still good.

    ----------

Temperature before my cats was about 100 degrees hotter than after.
