On my 98 Catera all my tires have slow leaks in them and was told by father-inlaw that its our rims that cause it. He has owned 2 both with same problem and mine as well. Anybody else have issues or know for sure y? Been thinking of just getting new but I love the stock chrome rims.
Yes, I had the same problem. Tried the bead leak stuff and only worked for few weeks....when it was time to change all my tires I told the tire shop to clean up / buff the inner rims really good and since then it has no leaks.
Most all rims wil corrode along the tire bead. If they are busted off the the rims cleaned well and re-mounted, that should fix the problem. My craptera had the same issue. Tried Goodyear dealer, but got the best results at Sears.
I had this problem on all four rims. The thing that solved it was putting in new valve stems WITH (this is the important part) RTV silicone gasket sealer in the groove where the stem seats against the rim. My rims do have a ton of corrosion around the tire bead but they seal just fine, its the vale stem that's the problem(in my case anyway.) You can test for this by mixing up some dish soap and water and spraying it on the valve stem. Wait 5 minutes and see if it bubbles up. Getting the valve stems replaced at a shop should be really cheap, they don't even have to take the tire off the rim. They can just squash the tire down near the valve stem, pull the old one out, spread the RTV goop on the new valve stem, pop it in, pump air back in the tire, done. Should cost about $10.
I tried the tire bead leak stuff but it didn't work.
