    Question help Catera misfire nightmare

    need help. 1st time on site luv it. installed new camshaft covers, and plugs, seemed simple, but when i started cat she acted like an engine thats timeing is retarded backfireing slow turnover all that even some smokey exhaust. took it all apart again makeing sure fireing order was correct plug gaps right, retorqed intake,plenium throttle body,cleaned oily plug boots boot holes out with alchohal,cleaned oily crank pos. senser off with alco. and reinstalled. checked for codes with obd 2 scan. got none just 00 and err 2 . restarted after all this engine then turned with more authority tried briefly to start but backfired a little and emmited smokey exhaust. pulled back timebelt cver belt not broken. help pleasehelp catera nightmare

    Was the car running when you started this work or are you trying to get a car going that you just got?

    What did you get when you scanned for codes? What do you mean by 00 and err 2? Doesn't sound like the scanner successfully made the connection. You need those codes. You probably have misfires and you need the codes to find out which cylinder. When you disturb old brittle ignition wires to change plugs, you can break them internally.
