Cadillac Catera and Cimarron Forum Discussion, Really weird problem (blue smoke) in Past Cadillac Vehicle Discussion; I'm at a stop light when my brake pad indicator suddenly comes on and then I see blue smoke coming ...
I'm at a stop light when my brake pad indicator suddenly comes on and then I see blue smoke coming from the back of the cat. I instantly thought my car was on fire since it smelled like plastic. So I shut the car off put the hazards on and go investigate and I noticed it was coming from my exhaust. Decided to risk it to the closest parking lot 200ft away, as I'm driving away the blue smoke clears. Pull over and no more blue smoke, the car is driving fine now but does anyone know what might have caused this?
Any help is welcome, thanks in advance.
ps. When the blue smoke started the cat showed no signs of anything happening ie: oil pressure, temp, rpms were all fine.
Usually, blue smoke means oil is burning in the cylinders from wear or a clogged pcv valve (breather). It usually happens when you first start it up and then burns off. It may have been happening all along but you just happened to notice it when you investigated the brake pad indicator which would seem to be unrelated.
Yeah the brake pad indicator is a little irreverent but I just mentioned it because it happened at the same time. I looked at the car a little better today and the vacuum lines above the manifold look a little oily so I'm going to clean everything out. I still don't know what it is because it was a big blue cloud of smoke, not a little puff. Almost looked like I was doing a massive burnout.
Thanks for the info.
