Cadillac Catera and Cimarron Forum Discussion, How cold is your Catera A/C? in Past Cadillac Vehicle Discussion; Hi,
I'm curious to know how cold the A/C in your Catera blows. I have added refrigerant and checked it ...
Okay, thanks. What should I do now....added refrigerant with the handheld pump and can, shows 45 on the pressure gauge. Also, if the compressor is weak could that be the issue. It works fine but not sure if that's I can't get it lower than 58 degree Fahrenheit.
58 degrees maybe good if you are using outside air and it's 105 degrees outside. Check temp on recirculating mode and compared the outside temp. Then turn on ac and see what the difference is. Your ac maybe good, but the out air plenum may not be functioning properly, or the heat may not be shutting completely off. Or you have a ref. leak.
my catera never blew super cold either. I had to have it on max all the time... still never got cool enough unless it was an hour long drive.
BTW its not a good idea to let the car idle on a hot day with air on. the heat will overheat the starter, and when you shut the car off it will not restart. the car will have to cool down befor it will restart.
The AC thermometer shows only 58 deg on the vent. I'm not sure what the problem is but it blows pretty cool air even with temps between 85-95 deg outside. My guess is to check if the thermometer is working properly or maybe have to add more refrigerant. How much does refrigerant does it take?
