2001 Sport "S" flashing on panel & all gear modes (P, R, D, 3, 2, 1) light up
I've read through the previous posts on this topic back from August 2011, but there does not seem to be 1 viable solution. So let's re-ask the question, since I just recently have experienced this. Reverse is all good. When I place it in "D", the gear modes sometimes all like up. I may drive for awhile, then I get the flashing "S" and then it doesn't want to start in 1st gear from a dead stop and the Check Engine Light comes on. The next day, the CEL is off, and I select "3" by touch, instead of "D" and no problems with city driving. Highway driving is another story, it won't kick over to 4th gear, so the RPMs get up in the low 3000's. For the past day, the CEL hasn't come back, but I still get the flashing "S" if I try to drive the car in the "D" selection, plus all the gear lights light up, and move around. Strange.
I've read that it could be a harness, a neutral safety switch, MAF, reset the car by pulllin the battery cable, etc. One just said, replace the transmission. The transmission works fine when the "D" stays lit, but once the light arbitarily moves from that while driving, I get the flashing "S". It seems like some kind of switch failure., it's But no one has offered up a solid answer.
Any ideas? Where is CateraMV6 when you need him? Thank

In my situation the car will not start. I get the blinking S sport light and so far the shifting and indicator lights are all normal. Any thoughts about if this switch would allow the starter to work but for some reason not allow the car to start???
