Question 2nd owner 98 Catera, new member????

Last year I purchased a 98 Catera with 10,000 miles on it. Great little car,
But.... Crusing down the intersate at about 75 and the car stalls. Trucks coming on my bummper and over to the side of the road I was. Glad to have my cell. I waited for an hour and the car would not crank. The tow truck took my car to Firestone and when the car got there it cranked right up. 20 times they say. Well they did all kinds of ckecks on the car. Your good to go they say. Well it happened again, waited 2 hours and it cranked right up. This time I almost made it to the Cadillac dealership. We waited and then it cranked right up. The service guy tells me right away it's the crank sensors.
That the Deville right next to my car was having the same problem. This is not a small problem, it's a dangerous one. Does someone have to die to have this part recalled? Does anyone have a suggestion on how you go about getting this recalled? Or is this just a
small minor repair that happens to all Cadillac's at 24,000 miles?
in Birmingham, AL

Re: Cadillac Catera shuts down many times

Im very sorry no one came to your aide....

But what have you done at a cadillac dealership in terms of getting this taken care of... Unfortunately, cadillac dealerships are reluctant to help since they are trying to kill off the catera.....

Re: 2nd owner 98 Catera, new member????

The dealership that I went to was very nice. You are right they acted like oh... Here comes the Catera. No they did not offer to do anything about it
like contact GM they just like to take your money.

I do have an address that I found surfing around that anybody can have.
I do plan on writing this man to complain about it.

Mr. Mark Leneve, General Manager
Cadillac
General Motors Corp.
100 Renaissance Center
Detroit, MI 48243

You know it's funny, I owned a brand new 1995 Saturn SC1 fully loaded
I loved that car. (my sixteen year old totaled it!)

Saturn Recalls... The dealership called you, They treated you
great. I may sell this baby and get me another one. I bought the Catera because it was a good deal. 10K for 8,000 totaly loaded. Not sure now!
I bought it from my husbands aunt who is 86!

Thanks for the reply.

Well i dont know whats dangerous about it.. Im not really what to say except your just gonna have to get a new crank sensor...

However, as much as I like the catera, selling might not be a bad idea... If yo uread the sticky atop this forum, the 97 and 98 cateras are TO BE AVOIDED... Too many goofy issues

Re: 2nd owner 98 Catera, new member????

Yes Crank/Cam sensors can stall the vehicle... but this happens on ANY vehicle equipped with them. If anything should be changed, it should be how the car should react to the mis-communication. Sorry your having a rough time, our Catera had a bad cam sensor once.
