Question Damn! Anyone help?

Hey guys (and gals),
Just a couple of quick questions I hope you can give me some help with.
First, Does anyone in the aftermarket make the brake pad wear sensors? If not, what are the consequences of not reconnecting or replacing them when doing a front brake job. Basically i'm trying to do the brakes as inexpensively as possible, 'cause i'm unemployed at the moment. I got rotors off e-bay for $48 for pair, and can get pads from Autozone for $28, but I don't want to spend $39 a piece for the wear sensors if I don't have to.
Secondly, has anyone out there tried to take their grille apart to customize it? I have a 2000 Cat and it looks like the grille breaks down into at least 2 or more pieces. I would like to keep the outer chrome ring and replace the center section that holds the cadillac crest with another type of material. Not sure exactly which at this point but if you want to get an idea go to www.stylinconcepts.com enter the type of car you have and go to the grille section. You'll get an idea of what I'm thinking of.

There is a way to cancel the system out... i believe if you can put a resistor on the connector(s) it fools it. Not sure yet on what to do about that. BUT an easier way (well somewhat) is to open up the instrument panel and take out the bulb of the light...http://www.angelfire.com/tx2/mannyyy/ipwriteup.html

Re: Damn! Anyone help?

thanks for the help. I'll prob. just remove the light bulb from the dash and replace all the other bulbs while i'm in there.
On a side note, while out havin' a cigarette earlier I removed the grille from the hood. About 7 or 8 small phillips head screws and you can pull it right out. Well, it's not going to be as easy as I hoped but I'll prob. get a spare grille from a junkyard and experiment on it. Keep ya posted.

Don't tear into the dash if you don't have to. When I did my front brakes, I cut off the old sensors after the connectors. I then stripped the 2 wires and connected them and taped them up. The light is out and if I ever decide to replace the sensors, the light on the dash will still work.

Is it a two wire sensor or something? I haven't looked at it yet but i'll be doing the brakes over the weekend.

Re: Damn! Anyone help?

It's a 2 wire sensor. Cut the wires on the sensor side of the connector and strip enough of the ends back that you can connect them. That way, you can still replace them when you want to at the connector.
