Re: Pulling Codes

Do you mean find out what code is causing a check engine light? If so, Autozones will let you borrow a meter to plug in and view the code(s) from the computer. Then you can have the clerk check their system to see what the problem is. Sometimes this is easy, sometimes not. My 2000 Catera has the check engine light on all of the time and the code says it has a problem in the secondary air injection system. I decided not to try and throw parts at this problem since it might get costly. I'll take it in to the dealer in a few days and have them look further. A month ago I checked my pick up with an Autozone meter and the Service Engine Soon light was due to a temp sensor not reading correctly. In this case I got a new temp sensor since it was only $9 and easy to change out. That did the trick and the light went out. Hope this helps.

Kevin

Re: Pulling Codes

Unfortunately, the Catera does not have the self diagnostics like the Eldo, Seville, and Deville. It's a real pain.... But Kevin756 is correct....you need some sort of scan tool. Autozone would definitely be less expensive than the dealer. Good Luck!
