Re: sparkplugs

taking off the plug' cover, taking off the boot, with a medium to long extender (depending on how good you can reach from leaning over the car) go at it.. using a sparkplug socket (i cant remember what size right now) of course. There may be issue with the further back plug access...

Re: sparkplugs

I had the "pleasure" of changing the plugs on my '97 over the weekend and the passenger side is very easy. Just like JefferyG said, you'll need an extension. I had a little problem on the drivers side because there's this piece being held on by 2 6-point nuts and I didn't want to take it off so had to work around it.
Just be careful because now my Catera isn't running right since I put the Bosch +4 in. I'm thinking maybe the +4 is too strong for the wires, which cost almost $280 from the auto store.

Re: sparkplugs

The 01 Catera has coil packs instead of wires, and the only part you will need a special tool for is the fuel lines. They make a cheap kit consisting of a 5/16 and 3/8 plastic release tool , I think OTC makes it, or Lisle....anyway, it is fairly straightforward...remove coil packs, replace plugs, and you are set.... are you having any misfire concerns? Check the sides of the coil packs when you have them out.....if you have a lot of rust on the thin metal plates that you can see near each boot, there could be a misfire condition present. Good Luck!

Re: sparkplugs

NJ Catera, for future reference if you need to remove the inverted Torx bolts you can use a regular 8mm or 10mm 6 point socket (depending on size) rather than purchasing the sockets(E8, E10, etc.). Hope that helps!
