1997 Catera, transmission fluid too full???

I have changed the trans filter and emptied two pans, put fluid in. The car is on a 4 post lift, level. Car running in Park , remove plug and trans fluid dribbling out.
Is it just too full and let it dribble till the level reaches bottom of bolt hole,
    while running of course?
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Procedure for checking fluid -

-Bring Car to operating temp by driving it
    -Turn off car
    -Raise and safely support vehicle
    -Start the car
-Shift through all gears, about 2 seconds per position, return to park
-Remove fill plug (With car running)
-If nothing comes out, add fluid until it is at the bottom threads of the fill plug hole (Which in your case, let it leak out while running until it stops)
-Install plug, tighten to 33 ft/lbs
    -Test drive, check for leaks
