    Catera: Year and mileage.

I'm curious to learn what is your mileage and year of Catera you own. And...perhaps what issues/problems you have had during your ownership.

I recently purchased a 2000 Catera with 84K miles. I had to replace both valve cover gaskets, the oil pressure sensor/sender, auxilary waterpump, and coolant reservior tank.

I have 2001 Catera with about 110,000 miles. I was lucky to buy a 4 year extended warranty on used purchase. The following,

    Under warranty:
    • Lower control arm bushings
    • Alternator
    • Ignition modules
    • Oil cooler
    • Crankshaft position sensor
    • Air Conditioning Control Unit
    • Air conditioning compressor (not sure it was a while ago)
    • About $13K to $15K dealer dollars on warranty work in total
    No warranty through dealership:
    • Heater Bypass valve
    • Positive Battery Cable harness
    • Transmission filter and fluid service
    • Spark plugs
Not through dealership but mostly self service:
    • Timing belt and water pump
    • Auxillary belt, tensioner assembly and crankshaft pulley
    • Breather assembly and throttle service
    • Oil Pressure sensor
    • Gas filter
    • Rear coils
    • Normal maintenance (cabin filter, air filter, brake rotors and pads, rear shocks)
    • Coolant flush
Pending self service or friendly mechanic in spare or due time:
    • Transmission filter and fluid
    • Rear carriage bushings
    • Differential oil change
    • Driveshaft bearing and support
    • Augment positive battery cable with welder's cable
    • Polyurethane bushes for front of lower control arm and front anti-roll/sway bar bushings
    • Rear sway bar bushings
Few things but over ten years or so and 90,000 miles of my driving after purchase.

Learnt a lot about these cars versus my first car, 1975 Cutlass Supreme, 2 door with moon light top

    Re: Catera: Year and mileage.

Lets give this a shot... the stuff listed is off the top of my head...

The car at the moment has 155K and was bought with 59K...

    Tie Rod ends
    Control arms
    Thermostat
    water pump
    timing belt
    rear crankshaft seal

The rest is mods... but nothing major, just typical maintenance, but much less than that of my brand new dodge neon which i bought years ago...
