1998 catera: Engine temperature needle is stuck on nil/zero temperature

Ok. 1998 catera- this car now runs fine and the Engine check light is NOT ON; but the temperature needle (far leftside) of the dashboard is stunk on Zero. No matter the driving conditions-- the needle doesnt not register tempature when the car is running.

Is there a sensor for this? Could it be the thermostat has failed,... something not hooked-up properly...and if so, any suggestions as to basic trouble shooting techniques.

Please advise - many thanks to all of you.

1sontov are the radiator and auxiliary fans working good? Hopefully something loose electrically if the fans are working.

It is quite an important sensor on these cars and I believe extremely awkwardly located.

    Cheers.
