    P0335 CPS A Circuit Malf.

Update on the 98 CAT in which I replaced the Crank Position Sensor. (other thread.) After trying to crank it, it cranked but did not fire. I noticed that the CEL light was on. Went over to the Auro Parts Store and got the Code reader.

I got the Code P0335 Crank Position Sensor A Circuit Malfunction. So do I need to re-seat the connector onthe top of the CPS or is there something else which may be an issue? any guidance welcome. Thanks everyone. Gotta get this thing running.

Edit: The new part is a Bosch.

I thought it is one continuous connectorized part and is like for like or better routing and reconnection. Sorry I am missing something as there appears to be just one screw/bolt to connect it to the block!

Any clarification perhaps might be able to help better.

    Cheers.

yes it was a one for one part with the magnetic sensor on one end with a one boolt attach flange, and a molded polarized connector on the other end. I re seated the connector on the top with a really good mash.

    but it still doesn't fire.

So now I need to detect spark and fuel.

i was going to detach a spark plug wire and hold it nrxt to the engine nblock, but the boot is like 4 inches long and no way to get a metal-to-metal gap to observe a spark. hmmm.

    What year is your Catera?

I seen very well plugged Gas filters as well as failing Gas Pumps.

I recently changed a gas filter on mine and it made a big difference overall.

You may want to safely release fuel pressure through the fuel pressure relief valve in the engine bay and capture any gas released. The gas relief valve is located right rear in the engine bay and obviously connected to the fuel rail. There is some confusion some times with the AC refrigerant valves in the area.

Let it sit for a while and then crank and verify again through the relief valve that the gas pump has regenerated the pressure at the relief valve.

Hope it helps or gives some ideas.

PS: I too had CPS issue a while back and was not handy and the car was towed to the dealer from Tim Hortens.

Today is Sep 10, 2010. Last night put a timing light on one, then another spark plug wire (front right and middle right) and got no indication of spark.

so that means what ? it can be Coil Pack or what else.
