    Radio Problem

Just bought a 2000 Catera and the radio has intermittent operation. It comes on when I start the car, but while driving it'll cut off and then cut on again. I checked the fuse and re-seated it. I'm thinking this is a connection problem. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do short of taking in for service. I would imagine it would be hard to trouble shoot if the radio is on when it is checked. Email me if you can: itten@comcast.net
    Thanks.

K134 Relay under the driver side footwell if you look above the hood release knob, straight up, you will see it its grey a bit smaller then a box of cigarettes,

Open that and look for broken solder points... thats what causes the issues...

I am 100% sure that this is the problem you have.

The relay you need, inside there are various items that control the vehicle...

    Re: Radio Problem

Would this hold true for the 1998 Catera as well?

    Re: Radio Problem

I think all cateras suffered from the K134 relay, the second one I got, I found a few joints that had very little cracks and as soon as I touched them with the iron, a major void opened underneath revealing absolutely no solder to hold the connection.

When that heats up it expands and often cuts out the circuit. Carefully inspect them all and make sure none of them are showing cracks.

Any Idea where the K134 relay module is located on a 1998 Catera?

    Re: Radio Problem

If you are having the radio issue where it won't power on in position 2 and only key position 1 upon shutdown, check fuse #10 for the aux water pump. This was our issue and not the K134 MF relay.
