Talking 2K1 CCS RETROFIT w/ 'FX-R' 50W-DDM DL50 R8-LED

Remove this ad
This is the finished result of my final headlight retrofit...

The headlight contains a BiXenon FX-R Projector purchased from TheRetrofitSource, as well as the LEDs and the BiXenon stickers...

The outer shroud was painted flat black and the LEDs were mounted along the outline of it, the path I chose made the most sense as the LEDs were not long enough to go besides the turn signal area...

Here are some of the final pictures.

The lights will need some adjustment in the future but for now they are good enough.

That project took a hell of a lot of money and probably a good 50hrs of work to get it to this point...

A second set will go a lot quicker as I know now what I need.

It has an Audi-ish look to it, I kinda like it.

Well that layout was the best one I can figure out so yeah I know it kind of signifies an audi but whats wrong with that...

Seen a few GOLFs with those Audi LEDs and when you see them coming in the distance you think R8... and then you get blow away when you see what it really was...

NOt to mention that the Opel theme really makes people go

Pics were shot with 0.56X Wide Angle lens so the beam may look narrow then it really is... but at least it fits in the picture otherwise I wont be able to fit in the photos...

Thanks, it was expensive and it took a long time to gather up all the components.

Not to mention the research time that went into it to properly select the best projector that wont squash my bank account.

Can you tell me why thes projectors are better then the originals one.
Is there a big difference between the US and the European projectors

Take a look at the following two pictures.... fist one is of my OEM HELLA HID lights which is what is in every omega around the world.
Second picture is of the Replica FX Projectors which are same size but bixenon which means they have low and high beam in one unit.

The Hella lights in our cars were designed 10-13years ago and as you can imagine the technology has improved a lot.

The Hella unit has a plastic bowl, flat cutoff shield and a frosted lens which is supposed to smere the output so that its less defined.
The plastic bowls are known to fog up, the cutoff shield does not provide the maximum output and the frosted lens does not pass 100$ of the light through it. Some light scatter (Loss) results in from the lens features.

The FXR on the other hand has Aluminium bowl designed with the latest reflection surfaces, optimizing curved shield and a crystal clear lens.
Result is the efficiency of the unit is much higher and as a result of it being a REPLICA unit the engineers were not restricted by regulations such as ECE or DOT so they had the freedom to design a projector the way many of the HID enthusiasts would want it to be.

If you are up to the task to upgrade you find out that you have been missing out on a lot. Going form OEM HIDs to these Aftermarket units is like going from Halogen to HIDs...

The difference is huge between the original and the upgrade.
