P0135 O2 Sensor heater circuit ( bank 1) (sensor1)
P0300 Random/multiple cylinder misfire detected
P0303 cylinder 3 misfire detected
P0305 cylinder 5 misfire detected
P0301 cylinder 1 misfire detected
P0650 malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) control circuit
I think the last one is from the check engine light bulb being burnt out.
I have an O2 sensor on order but I'm really hoping the P0303, 0305, 0301 arent saying the coil pack is bad. $$$$$$$$$$$$
Also, for the O2 sensor, is bank 1 sensor 1 the drivers side front sensor? I assume its the front because its heated. Thanks so much everyone! |

Also, are cylinders 3, 5 and one on the passenger side? Cause my valve cover may be leaking over there which might also be causing the misfire. |

Little help with the codes? 1,3,5 are passenger side cylinders. I am also having similar problems with my O2 sensor and those 3 misfiring once in a while. My codes are: P0131, P0171, P0300, P0301, P0303, P0305. I have a new O2 sensor. I have already replaced the coil, swapped MAF, CPS, plug wires and stuff like that from my other car but nothing seems to help so far. Would hate to have to pull the heads off again... |

You need to know which codes are setting as current. The misfire codes are probably history and will require no attention unless the car is just running badly.
Replace the O2 sensor, be sure you get the right bank, Catera is backwards from most... as stated bank 1 is the right bank.
You have to get the MIL working, bulb... whatever.

As for the check engine bulb, I got it working by swapping the burnt bulb with the Air Bag bulb. (Temporary fix) I have no idea where to get those tiny bulbs with the orange plastic hex back. I took pics and will post em. If anyone knows, that would be great.
And when you say right side, that means driver's side correct? Right side if you are facing the front bumper of the car yes?
I bought a passenger side, front 02 sensor on ebay from a '97-'99 (dont know which year exactly) Catera. I can tell from the pic however that it is different than whats on mine. Still 4 wire but different connector and the tip of it is different. So that prolly wont work. But hey, $30 to try I guess.
Will have to buy a new one I suppose. Not sure if that will fix my misfire prob though |

If the connector is wrong it won't plug in, they do that on purpose so you don't mix them up.
The 'right' side is always from the driver's seated perspective, the right side is the passenger side and the left is the driver side.
Bank 1 will be the passenger side bank. Standing in front of the bumper looking at the engine it will be to your left.
If the misfire problem is current then then MIL (check engine light) should flash constantly. If you have a code reader it should say "current" or "history" by the code. Concentrate on the current ones first.
As for the bulbs start by going to this company's website. www.specmo.com
They have a retail sales customer phone number, call them and tell them you want to buy some bulbs for your cluster.
They should sell you some. They are the only place I know of to get them. If they won't deal with you contact member Lindsay Cadillac Parts and have him call and get you prices.
If you guys want I can explain how to always know which bank is bank 1, it is slightly tricky but on a GM engine you'll never forget. |

A snap! I'm glad you told me that. I've was thinking it was the drivers side. Thanks for the info! I'll use the code reader at Autozone and see if the misfire is an old error. The light is not flashing.
Are the 02 sensors the same for all Cateras or did they change in 2000? FUZZKILL mentioned that The 2000+ uses wideband oxygen sensors and the 97-98 (I think) used a different style of sensor.
Heres the one I bought: oxygen.JPG
So whats the trick for knowing where bank 1 is? |

Not sure if they went to Lambda sensors before EOP or not, they might have.
We didn't start using them much until around '04 and then it depends on the engine. |

I had the light reset and it came back on when I started the car. It also flashes some times. The o2 sensor I bought is not right for my car. (So if anyone needs one from a '97 let me know). So where should I start with the misfire code? I dont want to throw $$ at this beast. |

Not sure how long it will last or if it will do anything bad... never tried. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
