Cool Brake light on dash

Remove this ad
HI
Just brought my daughter a 99 Catera as it seems like the only car made with metal and not coke tins! (Florida driving is the closest thing suicide!)

We have put new brakes all round and yet the brake light on the dash is staying on - any ideas.

The water in the radiator is full but that light stays on also - any advice.

We did and ODB test and all seems to be OK so why the lights.

Look forward to hearing from you guys.

Re: Brake light on dash

The front brakes have a separate sensor which needs to be replaced when you replace the brake pads. You must have seen a wire going to the brake pads when you replaced them. There is a sensor which plugs into the brake pads and plugs into the wire. If there is any break in the circuit (such as brake pads which have worn out the sensor wire, or if the sensor is missing), the light will come on. I once just cut off and twisted the wires together as a temporary fix.

The coolant level sensor in the overflow tank may be inoperative. You usually have to replace the entire coolant tank (I got one at foleyparts caddyparts@gmail.com) for $64 plus shipping). Some folks have been able to fix the sensor without replacing the tank.

Re: Brake light on dash

Hi
The brakes were done where we got the car from, I will take a look and see what I can do thanks.

$64.00 because of a sensor I suspect she may keep the light - it looks so pretty LOL!

Thanks I will post what I find.
