Catera Factory Navigation

Hello All - I have a 2000 Catera w/Bose and a CD Changer. Could this factory navigation (eBay link) be installed on my Catera? I know there are plenty of good aftermarket Nav systems but I want the factory look. Thanks for any help!

Re: Catera Factory Navigation

Your guess is as good as mine. The Catera never came with "factory" Navigation. Considering that our cars came from a German factory and the DeVille/Seville came from Detroit, I don't think that unit will fit in our dash. Even if it would, there's the question of its compatibility with our ECU.

The Omegas came with an LCD display in place of our Oil Pressure & Voltometer. It provided diagnostic info as well as Navigation. Whether it's compatible with our systems is another guess.

Re: Catera Factory Navigation

My honest opinion?!.... this thing looks like it came out of 1970 Space ship... its just too old and outdated... the maps will look like crap. Otherwise it will fit in the OEM slot... just like other Deville radios that look just like the catera radio!

If I were to sepend 200$ on a NAV System I would go with something portable.

Otherwise you can always opt for one of the Pioneer units which are in the 400-500$ and install it in place of the OEM unit.

On the other hand I have always wanted to install one of those car PCs which is a full blown computer with a touch screen integrated into the center column...

Also the Nav systems usually need power and a GPS antenna.

The rest of the connectiosn are identical... 8 speaker wires, 1 ground, 1 power, 1 remote turn on/off and thats about it...
Not impossible to install but yet its kind of a old system and I would stay away from it.

Also it doesn't look like the GPS sensor is included.

Re: Catera Factory Navigation

Yeah, I'm looking at one of the touchscreen decks as well, the only problem I'm seeing is that, I want to keep steering wheel controls, i like them. If I can't use them, than I'll want to change the steering wheel as well. Unless I can add some boost, and those will be my secret buttons...lol
