I think that they switched to making them in the new factory, all the way untill July of 2001 and then stopped production all together...

In the 7th mnnth of july they may have produced 3.2L versions for US sales but since Cadillac pulled the plug on the car they sold what they had and that was it. The 3.2L may have been ready for production, but put on pause for production when the CTS rolled out the about a year later... and with large corporations like GM everything is possible...
The catera was supposed to compete with the 3 series BMW and maybe thats why the 5speed was offered... remember the 3.2L 5spd was common in the CTS for the first 1 or 2 years... then they moved to 3.6s... and 2.8s...

If I were you guys I wouldn't worry too much about it... it was a car that didn't sell too well so it was canned just like many other models in the GM family...

I hear the Solstice GXP is going to be super rare as well...

But MV6, the new factory did not even open until early in 2002!

There was some "stuff" going on in Ruesselsheim back in 2001. And enquiring minds, including the OP and me, what to know about that "stuff".

BTW, I still think your "late" car is very cool.

I don't think anybody is gonna be able to beat Jan of 2001. We're preparing your award plaque now.

Re: Is there proof of a 2002 Catera with a 3.2l manual tranny

Ohh I see what you are saying... I wish I still had my contact at GM who was able to provide me with random information about the CATERA brand...

I have been looking at the 3.2L 5SPD Swap for my car but I think for now I will stick with what I got... the 3.2L wont quite do it for me.... my motor puts out almost as much power as the 3.2 and I am not even finished with my planned upgrades...

I wish I would have bought the 3.2 that I saw back when I got mine... but I missed my chance and I was unaware of its rarity as well...

Long long time ago way before I ever had my car I was reading a driving review and the guy mentioned a 3.2L with a clutch and he was saying how he couldn't wait to test that car... and that impressed me quite a bit, I must say... Later when I got mine I tried to find that article but no luck to this day.

So during the shut down did they overload their inventories so that they have cars to sell or what?
Sounds like there was a pause of about a year with no working factory... or am I reading this incorrectly?

By the way is the Catera a CAN or KWP 2000 System? I need to figure that out for my OP-COM Diagnostic tool... as I am unable to communicate with the ECU...

On the Omega side, for European distro, I have to assume they did overload. On the Catera side, AFAIK, the lights just went out until they could pick up with stateside manufacturing. And then it wasn't a slick-looking Cat any longer. It became a hard lined "bizzaro Cadillac". That's why the Cat will live on forever.

On your second item:

The Cat is ISO 9141. Whatever scanner or tool you use must support that protocol. Be aware the data rate with ISO 9141 is much slower than with the newer protocols, e.g., KWP 2000. I don't know whether the OP-COM works with Cats or not. To the extent the Cat remains an Opel, it will work. But if Caddy made changes . . . . . . well . . . . . . .

My best suggestion is for you to contact OP-COM and ask this question. I bet it will not be the first time they were asked!
