Changing Front Wheel Bearing: Catera

Hello-

Has anyone replaced a front wheel bearing on a Catera (2001)? Is a puller required to remove the hub / bearing from the spindle? Anyone know the procedure? Thanks.

Re: Changing Front Wheel Bearing: Catera

It's really easy to do.

Once you have removed the spindle bolt cover, you will need a 32 mm socket to remove the bolt. Then just pull the bearing-hub assembly off the shaft. The bolt needs to be torqued to 200 lb-ft or something like that.

Thanks much; I was hoping it would be that simple, but I didn't want to disable the car by screwing it up. Next purchase: factory service manual.

I don't mean to hijack the thread but I too would like to change my front bearings. Where is the cheapest source?

Re: Changing Front Wheel Bearing: Catera

I have a 2000 Catera Sport with 125000km's. The passenger side wheel makes a slight scraping sound when turning. I was wondering if it's the brake scraping the rotor or is the bearing worn out? Does anyone know?
