2000 Catera Door

I have a 2000 Catera and the driver's side door will not stay open. I think the "swing arm" (excuse me if I don't know the correct name but this is the piece that has the notches in it) is slipped or something is broken where the swing arm goes inside the door. I am trying to take off the door panel but I can't seem to get it. I have looked through all the posts and I found some posts that were about removing the panel but I still cannot get it. I am a non-mechanic so please give me as much explanation as possible. Here is where I am: I have the screws out from the panel itself and from around the bottom. I also have found the screw behind the door handle. The panel still seems to be held by something at the top of the panel where the window would go down into the door. I have pulled up about as much as I thought I could without breaking something. Can anyone help me PLEASE???? I don't have much hair and I am about to pull it out!!!

My 97 manual states that you have to pull the panel upwards because it is held by 3 clips to the door. Hope this helps

Been there and done that!

It is called the "door check." Best to buy the part and take it to a body shop. The door has to be taken off and the part has to be welded inside the door. Total cost for the repair was about $300.

I betcha I could do it for about $290 less with a drill and some bolts...
